Our Story · Since 1998
A family bistro, 28 years and counting.
Owners on site, a blackboard prix fixe, many wines by the glass — and the friendships built with our guests along the way.
How it began
David starts over — and opens a bistro.
David’s Bistro was opened in 1998 by David Chapman.
After being chef, and then chef-owner, of Anthony’s Seafood Bistro for 18 years, David decided to start over and open a traditional French bistro — with the emphasis on not just seafood, but every aspect of food.
With a daily prix fixe, a regular menu and daily features, there is always a changing selection. An extensive and sensibly priced wine list, with chalkboard additions and many wines served by the glass, means the wine lover is well taken care of.
In 2021 David’s daughter Natalie, a familiar face at the bistro, and her husband Ben took the reins. With the help of long-time Chef Elvis, they strive to uphold the standards David set in food, wine and service — and a comforting, welcoming atmosphere.

What is a bistro?
A place of refuge from a changing world.
The first bistros appeared in late 19th-century Paris. The name may come from a wine merchant or tavern keeper — or from the Russian bystro, “quickly”, said to have been shouted by soldiers in Paris taverns after Napoleon’s defeat. The original fast food?
Whatever its origins, the bistro came to mean a family-run neighbourhood eatery serving traditional regional food. Travel was limited, so people supported their local bistro, and the best were known for great food, wine and reasonable prices. Think escargot, pâté, duck confit and braised beef bourguignon with local wines — and of course pastis.
At David’s we have stayed true to that tradition. Over the years we have hosted many winemaker dinners and special events, but the day-to-day essence of a bistro is simple: a place of refuge from a changing world.
